Company History

Care 4 Pets was started in July 2000 by Alison Shelley and Jon Moya, in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, to provide an alternative to boarding kennels or catteries for family pets that were used to being in family homes. Jon and Alison had both owned pets previously and together they were then the owners of three dogs and various small animals, whilst also lodging with a pair of cats, so they understood the difficulties as well as the satisfaction of having pets.

Their return from family holidays had highlighted the need for an alternative for the pets' care as a dog returning from kennels would often appear quiet and upset for some time afterwards, whilst the cats would be aloof and react as if they hadn't been fed at all, ever,(OK, so it's hard to tell with a cat). Although it's nice to be able to call on the help of friends or neighbours no-one wants to impose or demand too much.

Initially Care 4 Pets' services were limited to home boarding and house visits in Barry, Dinas Powis and Penarth, but soon they found that a lot of people were feeling the same way about their pet's care and readily welcomed the option of having a paid pet carer to ease their concerns.

Subsequently Care 4 Pets has expanded the areas covered, into Cardiff and across South Wales , from Newport to Swansea . With continuing requests coming from various pet owners the range of services offered has also increased, now including dog grooming, house sitting and retail with a selection of pet products also for sale.

The business is still based in Barry, but recruits carers from all across the region to provide loving care and homes for many pets whilst their owners are away.

Care 4 Pets appears in Yellow Pages and Thomson directories and has advertised in both local and national newspapers and also in K9 magazine. Posters, leaflets and merchandising can be seen in a variety of vets and pet shops within the South Wales area.
